A rally organized by the Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Sramik Dal began this afternoon at Naya Paltan in the capital, marking the International Workers‍‍` Day.

The rally started at 2:30 pm in front of the BNP central office here.

Prime Minister and BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman is scheduled to address the rally with Sramik Dal President Anwar Hossain in the chair.

Anwar Hossain said they expect the presence of hundreds of thousands of workers at the massive gathering as labourers from factories in districts surrounding Dhaka have come to join the rally.

Meanwhile, although many roads in Dhaka were waterlogged due to overnight rain, the water receded over time. Despite the adverse weather, people began arriving at the venue from the morning.

Wearing red caps and T-shirts and carrying banners, leaders and activists marched in groups toward Naya Paltan. The venue became vibrant with their slogans and applause.

Security personnel were also seen deployed at the rally venue and surrounding areas.

BNP Secretary General and LGRD and Cooperatives Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Standing Committee members Prime Minister‍‍`s Adviser Nazrul Islam Khan and Dr. Abdul Moyeen Khan, and Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Administrator Md Safiqul Islam Khan have already joined the rally, among others.
